Surcharge

A surcharge is an extra amount added to a customer's bill for paying by card. From 1 October 2026, merchants can no longer add surcharges to eftpos, Mastercard and Visa transactions. American Express is not covered by this change. Card acceptance costs from that date must be built into prices rather than added at the terminal.
