Interchange Pass Through Tracker

On 1 October 2026 the RBA's reforms lowered what banks pay to accept cards. This page tracks 20 published card rates from 15 Australian payment providers, showing each rate before the 1 October reforms and now, with the date it was last checked.

Before: 3 Sep 2026Last checked: 3 Nov 2026Download CSV

As at 3 Nov 2026, 7 of the 20 card rates we track have been cut since 3 Sep 2026: Westpac, Zeller POS, ANZ Worldline, CommBank Smart (flat rate), NAB, Shopify POS and Stripe. 13 are unchanged.

interchange-plus, cuts flow through

A rate cut is not the same as the full interchange reduction reaching a merchant. How much reaches a business depends on its plan: on interchange-plus pricing the reduction flows through directly; on a flat rate it reaches you only if the provider cuts the rate. If your first statement since the ban looks higher, see surcharge ban bill shock.

A lower rate isn’t always a lower cost. Account fees and your card mix change the answer, and terminal rental sits outside the rate entirely. See what the providers we compare would cost at your volume.

Temporary promotional rates and fees are excluded. Rates shown are the standard ongoing rate for each provider, as at the date shown against it.

Questions merchants ask

Which payment providers cut their card rates after the 1 October 2026 reforms?

Of the providers we track, 7 published card rates have been cut since 3 Sep 2026. Westpac: cut from 1.2% to 0.79% inc-GST. Zeller POS: cut from 1.4% to 1.2% inc-GST. ANZ Worldline: cut from 1.1% to 0.95% inc-GST. CommBank Smart (flat rate): cut from 1.1% to 0.99% inc-GST. NAB: cut from 1.15% to 1.05% inc-GST. Shopify POS: cut from 1.95% to 1.85% inc-GST. Stripe (online): cut from 1.7% to 1.65% inc-GST. 13 are unchanged: Square, Zeller, Tyro, SumUp, PayPal (online), Eway (online), Pin Payments (online), Airwallex (online), Square (online), Zeller (payment links & virtual terminal), Square POS, Lightspeed Retail, Tyro (POS-integrated). Last checked 3 Nov 2026.

Did CommBank, NAB, Westpac and ANZ lower their merchant fees?

CommBank Smart (flat rate): cut from 1.1% to 0.99% inc-GST. CommBank (interchange-plus / IPP): interchange-plus pricing, so the lower interchange flows through directly. NAB: cut from 1.15% to 1.05% inc-GST. Westpac: cut from 1.2% to 0.79% inc-GST. ANZ Worldline: cut from 1.1% to 0.95% inc-GST. Last checked 3 Nov 2026.

Did Square, Zeller, Tyro, SumUp and Stripe cut their rates?

Square: unchanged at 1.6% inc-GST. Zeller: unchanged at 1.4% inc-GST. Zeller POS: cut from 1.4% to 1.2% inc-GST. Tyro: unchanged at 1.3% inc-GST. SumUp: unchanged at 1.4% inc-GST. Stripe (online): cut from 1.7% to 1.65% inc-GST. Last checked 3 Nov 2026.

What does the surcharge ban cost my business?

It depends on your card mix and what your provider now charges. Since 1 October 2026 you can no longer add a surcharge to eftpos, Mastercard or Visa payments, so every card fee comes out of your margin. To estimate it for your business, use the surcharge ban calculator.

Does a rate cut mean I get the full interchange reduction?

Not always. On interchange-plus pricing the reduction flows through directly. On a flat rate it reaches you only if the provider cuts the rate, and the cut can be smaller than the fall in interchange.

How do I check what my own provider charges me?

Use your merchant statement. Find your card turnover, card mix and every fee, then divide the fees by the turnover. That is your effective rate. Our guide shows where each number sits on the bill: how to read your merchant statement.

Method. "Before" is each provider's published card rate captured on 3 Sep 2026 from the source shown, unless a row says it was first captured later. "Now" is the rate the provider publishes on the date shown as checked. "Change" is the difference in percentage points. A rate is shown with the GST basis the provider states; where a provider does not state it, we carry the basis from our baseline and say so in the row's details. Fixed per-transaction fees, where they apply, are in the details. Promotional and individually negotiated rates are not tracked.
