How the ranking works

Compayr ranks providers by estimated cost of card acceptance — the percentage rate applied to your entered turnover and card mix (including any international-card loading), plus per-transaction fees, plus recurring account or service fees charged for accepting cards. Terminal rental and one-off hardware are shown alongside every result so you can see them, but they are never part of the ranked figure and never change the order. Use the multi-period view to project that same cost of acceptance over 12, 24, 48 or 60 months — the period changes, the ranking doesn't. Where two providers have an equal cost of acceptance, the one with lower terminal rental ranks first, then alphabetical order applies. Figures are shown including GST — the way providers quote — with an ex-GST view for GST-registered businesses who claim GST back. From 1 October 2026, surcharging eftpos, Mastercard and Visa is banned and interchange caps fall, so what you pay to accept cards is changing — this tool estimates your position before and after that date.

Rates and provider details are indicative, last verified September 2026 — always verify with the provider before switching. Rankings are never influenced by commercial arrangements; Compayr may earn a referral fee only when a merchant switches via our comparison. This is general information, not financial advice.

In this guide — the 1 October 2026 changes explained

Plain-English answers to the questions merchants ask us most.

From 1 October 2026 you can no longer add a surcharge to card payments, so the card fee you used to pass on becomes a cost your business absorbs. Use Compayr's surcharge ban cost calculator to estimate that absorbed cost per month and per year from your card turnover and current surcharge %, then compare providers here to carry it for less. Figures are indicative estimates in Australian dollars; confirm current pricing with your provider. This is general information, not financial advice.

General information only, current as at September 2026. Compayr is not a financial adviser — always verify with the provider.

Providers we compare

These are the providers included in the comparison, grouped by how you take payments — so you know the set before you run your numbers. We compare one standard published plan per provider; promotional and individually negotiated rates are excluded. Rankings are ordered purely on lowest estimated card acceptance cost.
